Reasoning with Equations and Inequalities
Hot, Night, Up, New, Black, Left, Pepsi ...
What word comes to your mind when you read the word "hot"? What word comes to your mind when you read the word "night"? Try these ...
Add ...
Multiply ...
You are probably thinking about opposites!! It is interesting how you were probably thinking of cold, day, down, old, white, right, and Coke when you first started reading this introduction.
After reading "add," you probably thought subtract, and after "multiply," you probably thought divide.
You are going to use this thinking when solving for equation and inequalities.
When working with a problem involving a variable, our goal is to isolate the variable from the rest of the terms.
When working the problems in this unit, think about doing the opposite operations in order to isolate the variable from the rest of the problem.
